TeaZa® Energy, the No. 1 tobacco-free alternative to smokeless tobacco, supports Kick Butts Day, March 21, 2018!  Kick Butts Day is a youth tobacco-free campaign organized by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids that promotes a national day of activism to mobilize and empower youth toward being a tobacco-free generation.

The campaign provides a platform to promote public policies that strengthen tobacco controls, expose tobacco industry efforts to market to children and inform the public at large about the health harms of tobacco use.

At TeaZa® Energy, it’s a no-brainer that we celebrate Kick Butts Day.  After all, we have a proven track record of helping people of all ages curb and/or quit their tobacco habits. Just look at the rave reviews from our loyal customers and the results of an independent tobacco de-addiction pilot study conducted by USC Project RISHI, in which participants reported as much as 66% decreased tobacco use, with 10% reporting they quit using tobacco products while using TeaZa®.

Given the widespread awareness of the health harms of using tobacco products, just how big is the problem of youth tobacco use today?

According to a recent report on youth tobacco use on the American Cancer Society website, from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the US Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) Center for Tobacco Products, nearly 4 million middle school and high school students said they use tobacco products in 2016.  The most commonly used tobacco product was e-cigarettes, with 11.3% of high school students and 4.3% of middle school students saying they use e-cigarettes. After e-cigarettes, the most commonly used tobacco products are:

  • Cigarettes – used by 8% of all high school students and 2.2% of all middle school students
  • Cigars – used by 7.7% of all high school students and 2.2% of all middle school students
  • Smokeless tobacco – used by 5.8% of all high school students and 2.2% of all middle school students
  • Hookah – used by 4.8% of all high school students and 2% of all middle school students
  • Pipe tobacco – used by 1.4% of all high school students and .7% of all middle school students
  • Bidis – used by .5% of all high school students and .3% of all middle school students

One government study concluded that the average age a smokeless tobacco habit will begin at 10-12 years old.

Smokeless tobacco use in youth sports, especially baseball, is common.  Through community outreach and sponsorship of youth sports and health programs, our prosocial initiative, Operation Tobacco Free (OTF), serves to inspire teens and young adults to live tobacco-free lifestyles. The OTF initiative is focused on reaching some 8 million adult smokeless tobacco users in the US as well as an estimated 535,000 kids age 12-17 who try smokeless tobacco for the first time each year.   For more information about OTF CLICK HERE.
